There’s nothing better than heading back to your campsite after a long day outdoors to find an array of camping snacks to satisfy your hunger. These simple camping snack recipes are perfect for long road trips, bumpy portages and lying underneath the stars.
1. Homemade Granola Bars
These healthy, homemade granola bars are simple to make and ideal for eating on the go. Whether you find yourself on a boat, lost in the trails or searching for treasure, these chewy bars are the perfect camping snack!
The recipe below is for a lemon and cranberry version, but the options are endless once you have your base.
You will need:
- 8×8 baking dish lined with parchment paper
- 1½ cups rolled oats
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ½ cup almonds, chopped small
- ½ cup honey
- 1 cup chia seeds
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup almond butter
- Zest of 1 lemon
- ½ tsp. salt
What to do:
- In a large bowl, mix together oats, almonds, chia seeds, cranberries and salt.
- In a small saucepan, melt together the almond butter and honey on low heat.
- Remove from heat, and add vanilla extract.
- Mix all ingredients together and quickly transfer to baking dish.
- Press down on the mixture firmly, to create a smooth, even surface.
- Allow the mixture to set for at least 3 hours or overnight. Remove from baking dish and cut lengthwise to create bars.

2. Homemade Granola
Homemade granola is a synch to make and tastes amazing with all kinds of things! Bring along a container of granola and you’ve got options for cereal, parfaits, salads, trail mixes and more. Here’s why we love using honey for our healthy camping snacks.
What you need:
- Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
- 3 cups rolled oats
- ½ cup almonds, chopped small
- 2 cup shredded coconut
- ½ cup coconut oil
- ½ cup honey
- 1 cup dried fruit
- ¼ cup seeds
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, combine oats, almonds and coconut.
- In a saucepan, slowly melt the honey and coconut oil together.
- Pour the melted mixture into the dry ingredients and stir everything together.
- Spread on your baking sheet and bake for 30-45 minutes.
- Stir the granola a few times to ensure that it is evenly baked.
- Once cool, stir in the dried fruit. Store in an air-tight container for 2-3 weeks.
3. Gooey Crunchy S’mores Squares
Looking for the crunchy, chewy, chocolatey taste of a s’more without worrying about the mess? These squares are the perfect solution! You can make them ahead and store in a large container ready to pull apart and devour!
Your grocery list:
- ¾ cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
- Pinch of salt
- 1½ cups mini marshmallows
- 2 cups graham cereal pieces
What to do:
- In a small pot, melt butter and salt at medium heat.
- Add in marshmallows and stir until fully melted.
- Remove mixture from heat and stir in graham cereal pieces.
- Stir in remaining marshmallows and chocolate chips until just combined.
- Press the mixture into an 9 x 5-inch baking pan.
- Leave in the refrigerator for an hour to cool and set before cutting into squares.
